Glow-in-the-dark, pedal-powered monowheel

Looking for a personal recreation vehicle for a new type of a sport, or an innovative amusement ride? Look at the monovelo – a vehicle for fun. Just like a jet ski.

This pedal-powered Monovelo monowheel was used in the closing ceremony of the Olympics in Beijing 2008. The monovelo consists of an inner and an outer frame. The inner frame has three small wheels that make contact with the outer frame. The outer frame is the actual rotating wheel and has a solid rubber tire.

The rider sits inside the inner frame that also contains the pedal mechanism and the seat. The braided tubes of LEDs between the two rings emit a brilliant light (can be switched off in daylight), powered by a protected rechargeable 1,800-mAh lithium-ion battery. Three colors of the LED-lights are available: Red, white and blue.
