Luxury fashion brand Mulberry is continuing its 50th anniversary celebrations with a collaboration with the brand’s long-time friend and the woman who inspired one of Mulberry’s most iconic bags: Alexa Chung.
Alexa draws on the aesthetic signatures of her own personal style: masculine formality offset with a vintage romance and a deep appreciation for British design.
Taking cues from vintage satchels as well as the Mulberry Elkington briefcase that inspired the original Alexa, the Big Guy is designed with versatility in mind: to be carried all day and to go with everything. The Little Guy is a more elegant, slimline bag for evening – my most ideal evening bag because it will go with anything.
‘”Today a successful designer in her own right, when it came to planning our 50th anniversary celebrations, we wanted to invite Alexa to design her own capsule. The resulting collection, which stars two designs – the Big Guy and Little Guy – is a natural and meaningful evolution of our friendship and captures Alexa’s distinctive approach to style.” – Mulberry.
These two new bag silhouettes from the Mulberry x Alexa Chung collaboration share a go everywhere, total relaxation spirit.
“I did a lot of image research around the ’70s. I was looking at pictures of Lauren Hutton and Charlotte Rampling and also thinking about films like Working Girl and 9 to 5, this army of ‘boss women’ with careers, a new female workforce turning up to the office wearing tweed.”
“Being invited to design my own Mulberry bag is really a dream come true. The first Alexa was named after me and getting to interpret it in my own way is even better. I wanted to make sure that it would endure, become a future classic.” added Alexa Chung.
Alongside the Big Guy and Little Guy is a complimentary edit of Alexa bags in the peppy, optimistic colour palette and 70s-inspired treatments of the Mulberry x Alexa Chung collection. The new silhouettes are crafted at our carbon neutral Somerset factories with leather sourced from environmentally-rated tanneries. According to the high-end fashion brand, the new bags are intended to be loved and worn, and one day passed on to the next generation.
