FENDI Spring/Summer 2022 Fashion Week

For his second show at Fendi, Kim Jones explored the joyful irreverence that has always defined the Maison, alongside his vision for its future. The result is a modern perspective on disco-age glamour with a spotlight on the powerful femininity synonymous with the Fendi name. For this new collection, Kim Jones drew inspiration from creations by fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez. His brushstrokes appear in elegant abstraction across cream kaftans and silken shirting, while his figurative drawings are translated into intarsia leathers, intricate lace and shimmering jacquards. Lilies become enamel hair accessories and the Fendi First bag embodies bold attitude. The wardrobe created by Kim Jones celebrates a free and empowered woman.

Dior Spring/Summer 2022

For the latest collection, Maria Grazia Chiuri delves into the history of Dior and explores the heritage and aesthetic of Marc Bohan, long Creative Director of the Maison. In a tribute to early 1960s looks, the silhouettes reveal cuts and graphic effects transposed in yellow, green, red, navy, orange and raspberry. The colors also symbolize the spatial geometries at the heart of games dreamt up by artist Anna Paparatti to question the rules of art and life. Reflecting her works, the show’s scenography expresses the spirit of “an absurdist game”. The designs are combined in multiple ways with materials such as scuba and nylon that reinterpret volumes, revolutionizing the look of the woman who wears them. Silhouettes are conceived to shine on the dancefloor, evoking the legendary Roman nightclub the Piper Club, an emblem of freedom.

Patou Spring/Summer 2022

For the Spring/Summer 2022 collection, Patou Creative Director Guillaume Henry imagined “La Pantaisie”, a bold and fantastistical universe. With joyful refinement, the wardrobe sparks extraordinary daydreams. In creating the collection, the Parisian Maison’s designer found inspiration in the works of illustrator Gustave Doré to propose a subtle mélange of modernity and history. Colorful silhouettes play with volumes and materials, more classic suits are set off by myriad motifs. The clothes and accessories are crafted like canvasses that mirror the creativity and freedom of the woman who wears them.

Ancient marble sculptures are translated by Fendi’s Kim Jones into softly draped silhouettes

@Fendi Couture

Legendary Italian filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini inspires Fendi haute couture.

Chapters of Rome’s history, its romantic allure and cultural legacy are interwoven with a distinctly contemporary aesthetic in the Fendi Couture Autumn – Winter 2021 collection, designed by Kim Jones.

Fendi presented its haute couture collection for Fall/Winter Hiver 2021-2022 through the lens of Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino. Womenswear Artistic Director, Kim Jones shared his vision of Rome, inspired by legendary Italian filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini.

From precious inlay effects to lavish crystal embroideries and appliqués, the Fendi Couture Autumn – Winter 2021 celebrates creativity and craftsmanship in their most refined forms. Themes and techniques inspired by the immortal allure of ancient marble sculptures are translated into softly draped silhouettes, delicate mineral hues, and intricate details. The breathtaking bags were inlaid with mother-of-pearl and marble mosaics inspired by authentic ancient murals.

@Fendi Couture

Amidst the Italian Maison’s Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana headquarters, the silhouettes echoed the rich history of Rome, immersing us in a poetic universe where time seems to stand still. Fendi couture shoes are decorated with mosaics and gowns reference the building’s marble columns with mineral hues and contemporary cuts, set off by embroidered silk and lace.

Ethereal leather pleats, delicate lace and intricate embroideries offer a dreamy transfiguration of Classical and Renaissance motifs within a contemporary context.

Overlapping temporalities included Kate Moss walking the runway with her daughter, a fusing of generations for timeless fashion that celebrates Italian elegance and artisanal excellence.

Dior translated fantastical Kenny Scharf cartoon characters into glowing playful prints.

For Fall 2021, Kim Jones, Artistic Director of Dior Men’s collection, shares a wave of optimism, drawing inspiration from the pop universe of American contemporary artist Kenny Scharf. Featuring bright day-glow colors, the resolutely playful collection is an invitation to a one-way trip to Planet Dior. Thomas Vanz’s colorful ink and glitter videos created a magical galaxy as the backdrop for Kim Jones’ silhouettes for Dior Menswear.

At the crossroads of pop culture and science fiction

Dior Men’s collaboration with artist Kenny Scharf punctuates the collection in the form of hyper colorful prints that light up everything from outerwear to iconic ‘Saddle’ bags, with a focus on Chinese culture and artistry – an original inspiration for Christian Dior himself – expressed in zodiac animal motifs and elaborate embroideries. Simultaneously a springboard for the dynamic evolution of the luxury House’s traditional tailoring expertise, the collection was presented in a surreal scenography that pulsed with fantastical astrological imagery by Thomas Vanz.

A huge fan of science-fiction and street art who is famous for characters that seem to have jumped straight out of cartoons, Kenny Scharf infuses his work with humor.

“When we started the collection we were coming out of the first lockdown and I wanted to spread some joy, happiness and hope,” says Kim Jones, Artistic Director of Dior Men’s collections in an exclusive video presenting the expertise that went into his Fall 2021 collection.

Kenny Scharf loves the clash of colors – yellow and purple, orange and blue, red and green. “When you take the happy and sad opposites and put them together, it creates the tension and excitement that I love,” the artist said in a statement.

Scharf’s bright-hued mélanges appear in the dyed hair of models as well as the scenography by French director Thomas Vanz, who avows a fascination with astrophysics.

In an homage to the iconic Dior Bar, jackets are belted at the waist over pants cropped above the ankle. The New Look for outer space is embellished with chrysanthemum blooms as boutonnieres, created specially by Maison Lemarié.

Dior Ateliers translated Kenny Scharf’s works into prints, fusing them with the famous Dior Oblique motif and appropriating them for embroidery executed using traditional Chinese techniques. China also inspired new drawings by the artist denoting Chinese zodiac animal characters printed on sweaters, as well as stunning jade jewelry by Yoon Ahn. Tamborin-style berets – a favorite of Christian Dior – were designed by Stephen Jones and embroidered in China. Thousands of tiny pearls and stitches were embroidered using a centuries-old Chinese technique to meticulously reproduce the fantastical Kenny Scharf cartoon characters curated by Kim Jones.
