Louis XIII, the French luxury brand rooted in cognac history, launches the world’s first ever Louis XIII boutique. This pioneering new chapter in the Louis XIII history is taking place in Beijing, in the prestigious Beijing SKP luxury mall. Showcasing Louis XIII in a spectrum of exquisite editions, this stylish space is designed to offer bespoke services and exclusive Louis XIII experiences.

Designed by RDAI, the high-end architecture and design firm renowned for the seminal Hermès flagships or Elie Saab, the Louis XIII Boutique exposes a skillful mix of luxury and elegance, design, digital technology and customized lighting, therefore appealing to all senses. Showcasing materials and colours that tell the LOUIS XIII story – limestone evoking the precious chalky terroir, copper recalling the eaux-de-vie stills, oak invoking the ancient casks, glass and crystal for the decanters – it enjoys a prime location at the heart of Beijing SKP, inviting clients to take time out to savour and discover.

“Louis XIII cognac is an icon of French art de vivre and excellence. With this world-premiere, Louis XIII is changing the rules of the game in spirits, posing the founding stone of a new chapter in its history,” said Eric Vallat, CEO of the House of Rémy Martin.

“The Louis XIII Boutique tells the story of this iconic cognac through a play on opposition and complementarity, a union between the concentration of mineral and vegetal, the sense of terroir and the expression of time. The design concept combines the noblest materials with state-of-the-art digital innovations to inspire poetry and feeling, the experience of Louis XIII,” said Denis Montel, Artistic Director and Managing Director of RDAI and RDAI Architecture.

To accompany clients on this journey into the heart of cognac, the boutique features a stunning centrepiece, The Century Wheel, a circle of light which, when the hand approaches, travels through the ten decades that comprise Louis XIII. One century in a decanter, the maturation process is portrayed in the rich coloured hues of cognac illuminated in 1200 glass bricks around the walls, offering a lyrical and sensorial experience of time. Among the Louis XIII offer that clients can experience will be tasting opportunities and food pairings as well as special editions and unique Louis XIII products sold exclusively at the Beijing SKP Louis XIII boutique.

L’Odyssée d’un Roi – a bespoke tribute to the LOUIS XIII mythical journeys through the ages.

The first shipments of Louis XIII cognac in the late 1870s inspired Louis XIII cognac, one of the world’s most storied Grande Champagne Cognacs, to create L’Odyssée d’un Roi, a unique collaborative project with Hermès, Saint-Louis and Puiforcat.

More than 50 individual artisans have devoted over 1,000 hours per piece to produce the three bespoke trunks of L’Odyssée d’un Roi.

“It is truly the result of a work of art and genius, a veritable tribute to craftsmanship and time. Much like the time, finesse and care it takes to create LOUIS XIII, so it is with the process of preserving classic cinema,” said Ludovic du Plessis, Louis XIII Global Executive Director.

Sotheby’s will auction each piece in New York (September 10, 2016), Hong-Kong (October 1, 2016) and London (November 16, 2016), with proceeds benefiting THE FILM FOUNDATION, a non-profit organization founded by Martin Scorsese and several other leading filmmakers to preserve and restore classic films, ensuring their survival for future generations.

“We’re grateful to Louis XIII for its support of THE FILM FOUNDATION,” said Martin Scorsese. “The foundation’s film preservation work protects the cinematic heritage that we all share. The partnership with LOUIS XIII is an excellent way to highlight the foundation’s preservation, education, and exhibition programs. No matter where or when a film was made, a century ago or a decade ago, the foundation is committed to ensuring that all films survive to be seen by future generations.”

After being presented in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong-Kong, L’Odyssée d’un Roi will be exhibited in New-York (May-June), Singapore (end of July), London (September) and Paris (October).

John Malkovich is the star of the movie you will never see. The film will not be released until 2115.

2115: An Unknown Future. A proactive piece of art that explores the dynamic relationship of the past, the present, and the future.

Louis XII John Malkovich 100 years movie teaser

An original film starring actor John Malkovich envisions Earth one hundred years from now and will not be released until 2115. Directed by Robert Rodriguez100 Years“, the movie you will never see, was inspired by the century of careful craftsmanship and patience it takes to create a decanter of LOUIS XIII Cognac, one of the most luxurious spirits in the world.

To ensure that “100 Years” remains secure until its official premiere on November 18, 2115, one century from now, the film was placed in a state-of-the-art safe which will open automatically in 100 years when the timing is complete. One thousand guests from around the world received an exclusive invitation to give to their descendants to attend the premiere of “100 Years”, on November 18, 2115, at the House of LOUIS XIII in Cognac, France.

A French art de vivre enthusiast and thought-provoking virtuoso, John Malkovich developed an original screenplay for “100
Years”. Styled by costume designer Nina Proctor, Shuya Chang was cast as his on-screen partner, and the two journey through an unknown future achieved by innovative set design and extensive CGI effects.

“When I was first approached I really loved the idea… I mean, in a way I wish all the films I made wouldn’t have been seen for a hundred years. I don’t know how much that would change the way they are regarded,” said John Malkovich.

While this ground-breaking film will not be released until 2115, three teasers have been produced that explore hypothetical visions of what Earth might be like in one hundred years. Each teaser begins with the same dialogue and incorporates the actors, but each presents a different future. One imagines the Earth one hundred years from now overtaken by nature. Another imagines a world ruled by technology, after extraterrestrial exploration when Earth becomes ultra-urbanized and technologically advanced. And the third teaser imagines that humanoid robots have taken control of the earth and humans have to run to escape. They engage viewers to question which vision is closest to tomorrow’s reality. In addition, a short trailer will provide a brief glimpse into the making of and content from the completed “100 Years”.

The film “100 Years” was placed in a custom made safe created in partnership with Fichet-Bauche, a distinguished French company, established in 1825, and a world-leader in secure storage facilities. The safe is a marvel of design, featuring bulletproof glass and a revolutionary timer that records the time and date upon closure and counts down one hundred years. Once closed, the safe will not open until the one hundred year countdown is complete on November 18, 2115. The first luxury safe box in the world that cannot be opened with a code or a key, the safe will open automatically regardless of access to a power source, further guaranteeing that there is no way that the film can be accessed before 2115.

“100 Years” was celebrated on Wednesday, November 18th with an exclusive preview of the film’s trailer at the Sheats Goldstein Mansion in Los Angeles. During the invitation only event, John Malkovich, with LOUIS XIII, ceremoniously placed the film reel into the custom safe and set the timer for the official premiere in November 18th, 2115. This safe will be transported around the world under high-level security for an international tour beginning in Hong Kong on December 11th, before it reaches its final destination at the House of LOUIS XIII in Cognac. When the safe is finally unlocked in one hundred years, guests will be welcomed – including the future cellar master, and a descendant of each guest who received a ticket to the film’s preview in 2015 – to an exclusive premiere at the Domaine du Grollet in Cognac, France, on November 18th, 2115.
