A wondrous escape. Perfect for a two-wheel city adventure, this new luxury bicycle showcases Louis Vuitton’s extravagance.
Louis Vuitton and Maison Tamboite have come together, fusing both Maisons’ common yet unique savoir-faire of leather craftsmanship and woodwork.
“Like a tailored suit or shoe, a bicycle is the extension of the owner’s body. It must embrace his morphology without restricting it. “No less than fifteen personal measurements are needed to build a bicycle perfectly adapted to each morphology and cycling style” – Tamboite.
The Louis Vuitton Bike invites each curious cyclist, beginner or experienced, to explore horizons, comfortably meandering any landscape. Made by Louis Vuitton and TAMBOITE, an artisanal Paris-based bike-maker established in 1912, the bicycles are a symbol of French craftsmanship and Parisian chic. Perfect for a city adventure or a countryside exploration, the bicycle features signatures of the luxury Maison, including a Monogram flower chainset and an interlocking “LV” shaped frame. Additional nods to Louis Vuitton’s heritage are seen throughout, including the leather saddle, handlebars, and luggage rack.
From the Monogram perforations on the leather saddle to the contrast edge-painting on the leather lengths that wrap the handlebars, the Bike MM Closed Frame ($28,900.00) is an exhibition of meticulous craftsmanship. It is assembled entirely by hand in the famed Maison Tamboite workshop in the 12th arrondissement of Paris. A luggage rack, elegantly topped in canvas, makes a useful addition.
Maison Tamboite has always been a manufacturer of custom-made bicycles. Tamboite is also known for its discretion and not having a street-front business location. Unlike Tamboite bicycles, Louis Vuitton Bike is not custom made and it is sold also online.
Tamboite bicycles are all custom-made. No less than fifteen personal measurements are needed to build a bicycle perfectly adapted to each morphology and cycling style.
“Ideally, we like to measure clients in our workshop under the expert eye of our master frame designer, just as would a tailor. However, if you have difficulty coming to our workshop, we are perfectly happy to travel to meet you at your preferred location anywhere in the world. Following the measurement stage, it takes more than a hundred hours, over a period of three months, to create your bicycle since time and patience are absolutely necessary to achieve the perfect precision and level of excellence produced by our master craftsmen.”
Tamboite receives its clients in Paris in the privacy of a showroom adjacent to their workshops, in a charming internal courtyard on rue Saint Nicolas. From the street, nothing reveals the existence of this delightful hideaway. Visitors must open a gate to discover its special secluded and timeless atmosphere. It is well worth a personal visit to understand and appreciate the nature of this “secret place” and the world of Maison Tamboite Paris.
