The Legends and Fairy Tales: Fendi dancing across the enchanted Trevi Fountain in Rome

From Rome with love. The first-ever fashion show at the iconic Trevi Fountain.
#‎Fendi90Years‬: A glimpse into an incredibly enchanted world.

Italian fashion house Fendi gave Fontana di Trevi in Rome a helping hand by supporting the renovation process. In return, the largest Baroque fountain in the city of Rome and one of the most famous fountains in the world, became an unusual setting for a prestidigitation fashion show celebrating Fendi’s nine decades in fashion.

The fountain which appeared in several notable films, including Federico Fellini’s La Dolce Vita, was the stage for a fantastical fairy tale world brought to life by Karl Lagerfeld with intricate embroidery, handmade appliqué, and a dreamy color palette.

Once upon a time, princesses danced across enchanted waters in lavishly adorned gowns. The Legends and Fairy Tales collection features romantic colors and ethereal materials such as organza, silk, and tulle.

In the interview preceding the show, you can see an aged Karl Lagerfeld explaining in a poetic manner the creative process and the idea of future at 82 years.

“Walking on water on the Fountain of Trevi is a fairy tale… something that will never happen again and never happened in the past. Since the Fellini movie with Madam Eckberg in the water nothing had happened in or under the Fountain,” explained Lagerfeld.

“I don’t have so much time left to have fun in the old way because I had enough of that in my life anyway. I have no idea about any kind of future. Future is the next season. Basta,” concluded Fendi’s Creative Director.

“Fendi’s craftsmanship shines with printed and hand painted fabrics, embroidered lace and rich velvet jacquards. A truly fantastical collection that could have only come to life in the Trevi Fountain,” commented Fendi.

The Trevi fountain was refurbished in 1998; the stonework was scrubbed and all cracks and other areas of deterioration were repaired by skilled artisans and the fountain was equipped with recirculating pumps.

In January 2013, Fendi announced a sponsorship of 2.2-million-eurofor the restoration of the fountain; it will be the most thorough restoration in the fountain’s history.

Restoration work began in June 2014 and was completed in November 2015. The restoration included the installation of more than 100 LED lights to improve the nighttime illumination of the fountain.

Go behind the scenes of the Legends and Fairy Tales collection that made its debut on July 7th at the Trevi Fountain. The craftsmanship involved in this collection is perplexing.

“The venue reflects Fendi’s aesthetic interpretation of its lifestyle in terms of design and is a symbol of the brand,” chairman and chief executive officer Pietro Beccari told WWD. “There is no other place where you can so easily understand our very precise, very personal vision of luxury. Once people come and see this for themselves, their entire idea of Fendi will change.”

With a Zuma restaurant and a rooftop terrace with a bar, the Palazzo Fendi offers a complete Roman experience of Italian luxury.

The ground floor and first level are home to the massive Fendi boutique. The store offers a unique esthetic experience, exhibiting a selection of artwork in an architectural setting that epitomizes Italian luxury. In the entrance, visitors are welcomed by the Moon Baal sculpture by Swiss artist Not Vidal, reflecting the circular motif of the precious marble floor. The choice of travertine, the stone traditionally used to
build classical Roman monuments, pays tribute to Italian heritage.
