    BMW Motorrad Days 2013

    In 1923, the first ever BMW motorcycle came off the production line – the R 32. The 13th BMW Motorrad Days from July 5th – 7th 2013 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen was the perfect setting for a very special anniversary: 90 years of BMW Motorrad.

    The 13th edition of the biggest BMW Motorrad meet-up was dedicated to this anniversary. 32 entrants competed with each other in pairs over the distance of one furlong in a knock-out system. The race was only opened to BMW motorcycles with a boxer engine. There was no limit in terms of year of construction or number of valves, but bikes with a classic look were preferred.

    Another highlight was the BMW Concept Ninety – a concept study that draws heavily on the BMW Motorrad design icon BMW R 90 S, which commemorates its 40th anniversary this year. Roland Sands, whose custom bike studio was closely involved in designing the study, presented his modern interpretation of a sporty boxer motorcycle in person.

    At the BMW Motorrad exhibition tent visitors had the possibility to take a look into the near future of BMW Motorrad: New colours and the complete model range of BMW Motorrad, model year 2014 celebrated its public premiere in Garmisch.

    Another very special guest coming over from the USA this year was Valerie Thompson, the fastest women in the world on a BMW S 1000 RR (341.18 km/h).

    The 90th anniversary of BMW Motorrad is also a highlight in Munich. The BMW Museum opened its special exhibition “A life for motorcycles” at the BMW Museum until November 3rd 2013.

    Last year it was BMW Zagato Coupé. At this year Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, which runs May 24-26 on the
    picturesque shores of Italy’s Lake Como, BMW and Pininfarina present the sequel to this new design approach which saw creative exchange with other design studios.

    The close collaboration with the Pininfarina design team has led to a new automotive personality brimming with character and ready to join the high-end luxury class: typically BMW and bearing the refined imprint of Pininfarina. The BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupé adds a new dimension to the BMW claim to elegance and exclusivity, explained BMW group.

    According to BMW, the exterior of the new concept cars symbolises the modern harmony between power and elegance encapsulated by the V12 engine under the bonnet.

    BMW group is presenting at the 2013 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este an exclusive exhibition of motorcycles celebrating 90 years of BMW Motorrad.

    The stage to look into the future


    The Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on Italy’s Lake Como, regarded by many as the most significant event in the classic car calendar, will celebrate this year the anniversary of 6 decades of Corvette, will offer a showcase of BMW motorcycles, and will unveil the result of BMW x Pininfarina debut cooperation – the much-anticipated BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupé.

     

    For 3 days each May, extraordinary automobiles, which express beauty, passion and uniqueness, are brought on the picturesque shores of Lake Como since 1929. Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, which runs May 24-26, will open its doors to the public on Sunday when the enthusiasts can admire the vehicles competing for prizes. All 49 vehicles taking part in this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este will parade in front of the public. A lot of rare cars and one-off specials from yesteryear will be on show in 9 different classes.

    The visitors will be able to marvel at the exhibition in Villa Erba, celebrating 90 years of BMW Motorrad. The unusual exhibition of motorcycles from the beginnings of two-wheeler history will take the fans on a journey through time across the decades. More than 30 historic and unique motorcycles, and milestones in BMW Motorrad history are on show.  For example, the BMW R 32, the very first motorcycle model in BMW’s history. The supercharged 255 as the dominant racing motorcycle in the second half of the 1930s, the prototype R 10, the only two-stroke machine ever built by BMW,
    and the winning motorcycle from the Paris-Dakar Rally in 1985 ridden by Gaston Rahier.

    Another highlight of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este is the collection of Corvette models. This year the icon of the “American Dream” on four wheels is celebrating its 60th anniversary and this event looks back on the successful history. Unique collectors’ cars will be showcased, such as a Corvette C1 Roadster from 1954 and a C3 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car Coupé from 1978.
