Homes with built-in creativity: Airbnb has launched a $1 million fund to make the world’s wildest home ideas a reality

The wilder, the better: $1M for 10 groundbreaking home ideas.

Airbnb is looking for unusual shapes, unexpected locations, immersive concepts, and spaces with a story.

Airbnb is on the hunt for people who will challenge the very idea of a house. Airbnb has launched a $1 million fund to make the world’s wildest home ideas a reality. The Unique Airbnb Fund is the company’s first-ever million-dollar program designed to find and help finance the most unconventional and unusual living spaces on the planet. An expert panel of design and style innovators, including MVRDV’s Fokke Moerel alongside Emmy, Tony and GRAMMY Award-winning actor Billy Porter and Airbnb Superhost (of the famed Big Idaho Potato Hotel) Kristie Wolfe will select ten recipients.

Dream big—but keep your feet on the ground.

The winning designs won’t be judged just on style: They also have to demonstrate “feasibility, sustainability and social good,” according to Airbnb.”The Unique Airbnb Fund is a great initiative that makes hospitality exciting. It will empower people to create new spaces with daring, imaginative and fantastic architecture,” says MVRDV partner Fokke Moerel. “Personal wunderkammers will be created for guests to appreciate and be inspired by.”People can submit their ideas to Airbnb from now until April 15.

“We’re giving 10 people $100,000 each to build the most unconventional Airbnb they can dream up. Whether it’s a new idea or a restoration plan, send us your pitch and tell us why you believe it belongs in the world,” added airbnb.com

Ten winners will receive $100,000 each to help bring their ideas to life. The spaces will become the winners’ own personal residences.
