Berluti is introducing the second drop of The Essentials, Berluti’s permanent line of ready-to-wear, shoes and leather goods.

@ Berluti Essentials 2021/ 2022

Born last March 2021 and inspired by the luxury Maison’s heritage, Berluti Essentials is a line spanning the modern classics, elevated timeless and must-have pieces that every man’s wardrobe should have, and the ones Berluti clients wear on their day-to-day lives. Designed to be progressively completed according to the evolving needs of the seasons, the line now welcomes its second drop, supplementing the ongoing offering with a few selected pieces.

New ready-to-wear pieces are devised to complement classic tailoring with a chic, modern edge. Outerwear includes a dark indigo B-Way, a black long sleeved body warmer jacket and a taupe down jacket with a folding hood, all of them made of Scritto-printed water-repellent nylon and complete with a trademark Berluti leather crest. New knitwear includes a jumper and cardigan in a subtle tone on tone Scritto jacquard virgin wool.

New pieces from the second drop of The Essentials match perfectly with the existing pieces introduced with the launch of the line – such as a double face cashmere coat with a Scritto lining, a weekend jacket, sleek ‘Alessandro’ trousers, a chino and a jogger.

Two new formal shoes join the emblematic “Alessandro Démesure” and the “Andy”. Both part of the “Equilibre” line, they are a celebration of Berluti’s DNA and bootmaker know-how. A timeless Chelsea boot with elastics on both sides is the perfect counterpoint to an elegant 5-eyelet lace up Oxford with perforation details on the upper. Both made from Venezia leather with a Nero Grigio patina, they are crafted using a padded insole to support the natural anatomy of the foot, using a similar approach to bespoke shoes, for exceptional comfort.

Berluti presents SIGNATURE Leather, a new, full leather version of the Maison’s emblematic pattern canvas which dresses here, the new ‘Rider’ cross-body bag.

The original SIGNATURE Canvas was inspired by Berluti’s archives. It features a motif blending Berluti’s crest and logo with Scritto’s undulating strokes, printed in shades of slate and lead grey over a black background, on a textured and coated fabric. Creating an aesthetic bridge between the past and the present of the brand, the pattern has quickly become a Berluti emblem.

For this new drop of The Essentials, the motif is repurposed on a selection of leather pieces. The Berluti crest and SIGNATURE pattern are subtly embossed on the leather – a feat of artisan precision and attention to detail – for a thoroughly modern fully black look that is also rich in texture. True to the SIGNATURE line, finishings include plain leather details topped off with bootmaker studs that bring a hint of metallic sparkle to each piece. A new contrasting lining in beige cotton linen fabric adds the final touch.

The SIGNATURE Leather offer comprises three of Berluti’s classic bags: the ‘Nino’ clutch, the ‘Rider’ cross-body bag and the ‘Ulysse’ tote; as well as the new ‘Trip’, a backpack complete with a zipped front pocket, adjustable nylon shoulder straps and a trolley loop. Featured small leather goods include the ‘Imbuia’ card holder, the ‘Excursion’ and ‘Itauba Vertical’ wallets and the ‘Traveler’ and ‘Walker’ neck pouches. The new ‘Twist’ lace-up boot – a globetrotting-inspired style featuring the lugged outsoles typical of boat shoes – in plain and SIGNATURE leather with a D ring detail completes the offering.

Berluti unveiled a new Home & Office Objects Collection

Berluti’s new Home & Office Objects collection reflects the luxury maison’s long history as an artisanal maker, most eminently its expertise and authority with leather. Three key materials that are integral to the maison feature principally. Hornbeam wood, used to make Bespoke Berluti shoe lasts, is an extremely dense wood with a fine grain. Rarely used for small-scale carpentry due to its sturdy hardwearing properties, this pearly sapwood is more commonly used when robust strength is needed.

White Carrara marble, or Bianco Carrara, with a soft grey grain, is used in the Manifattura Berluti, as its surface has a cooling effect on leather during the patina process. Bianco Carrara, as well as black veined Nero Marquina, is used to craft items including a small change tray trimmed with Venezia leather, an ergonomically pleasing cylindrical paperweight, and bookends, both carved from a single block of marble. The Bianco Carrara change tray and bookends are highlighted with bright Blue Hills and Pinjore Garden Green patinas, while the emblematic TDM Intenso patina matches the intensity of the Nero Marquina marble.

The collection bridges innovation and modernity with traditional craft, as exemplified in the Venezia leather mouse pad – available in Sukhna Sunset Purple and TDM Intenso – which is created to enhance digital working while featuring the iconic house Scritto motif.

The joy of analogue working – handwriting in notebooks, sharpening a pencil, writing with a favourite ink pen – is celebrated with a handsome refillable notebook cover in TDM Intenso Venezia leather, a luxurious desk blotter in Nespola Orange or TDM Intenso Venezia leather, and an elegant pen tray carved from a single piece of hornbeam wood, finished as well with a TDM Intenso patina. No detail is overlooked in even the most understated items. Minute dovetail joinery showcases cabinet-maker precision on the hornbeam photo frame, propped in a marble stand.
