Object Rotterdam 2012 – the latest limited editions and designers one-offs

OBJECT ROTTERDAM 2012

OBJECT ROTTERDAM is the fair for contemporary design and will be held during Art Rotterdam in the opposite Las Palmas building. The 2012 edition of OBJECT Rotterdam takes place from 9 to 12 February and is under the management of new director Anne van der Zwaag.

The fair wpresents the most current developments in Dutch and international design. The fair is a platform for the latest limited editions and one-offs from well-known and upcoming designers working in different design disciplines and with various materials.

The 2012 edition is characterized by a fresh and dynamic programme. The new director Anne van der Zwaag and the Committee of Recommendation, with its world famous ambassadors of Dutch art and design Joep van Lieshout, Ben van Berkel, Jurgen Bey and Marcel Wanders, stand for new ambition.

During OBJECT ROTTERDAM 2012 Galerie Judy Straten will show, in cooperation with Křehký Gallery some limited editions for the first time in the Netherlands, including Camoufleur by Richard Hutten.

Camoufleur was presented from June  to August 2011 in the Czech Republic during Křehký Mikulov, the first Art and Design Festival in Central Europe. Camoufleur is designed and produced by order of Křehký Gallery. The presentation of Camoufleur during OBJECT 2012 will be its début, outside the Czech Republic.

OBJECT ROTTERDAM will, even more than at the previous editions, focus on the cutting edge between design, crafts, architecture, fashion and art. With a strong emphasis also on the experiment, by means of decorated spaces by young designers and design academies.

“OBJECT has to be a place where visitors get inspired. Signing on not only galleries, but designers and academies as well, brings about fresh energy, Innovation is an important aspect of the Dutch design climate, and is a distinctive element in comparison with other design fairs. I am convinced that this will contribute to the quality of OBJECT Rotterdam and the attractiveness for the collectors. The new format will increase the scope of the fair and attract more and a new public. “, said Anne van der Zwaag, director OBJECT Rotterdam.

During OBJECT Rotterdam a large number of activities will take place at the fair. All these activities give the fair context and even more content. Items, the leading design magazine in the Netherlands, organizes a design relay at which designers, collectors and gallery holders will speak one by one about the collector’s essence. Also at OBJECT Rotterdam, My first Design Collection, a class for everyone that takes their first steps towards building a design collection. The Design Platform Rotterdam will host a programme about design and film and everyday there are debates, with relation to the Rotterdam Design Prize. Instructables Restaurant, the first open source restaurant in the world, is in charge of this year’s food and drinks at OBJECT. Thonet, a pioneer of furniture design, furnishes the restaurant.
