Illuminating moments: Kartell Floor Lamp Geen-a wins the 2022 RED DOT “BEST OF THE BEST” award

Italian furniture brand Kartell, with the Geen-a lamp designed by Ferruccio Laviani, was awarded the prestigious Red Dot “Best of the Best” award as part of the annual international design competition divided into categories which since 1955 has awarded the most deserving design projects. The competition, based in Essen, Germany, is an internationally consolidated reality thanks to a qualified team of experts who evaluate the quality of the projects. Geen-a is a reading lamp, which completes the lighting range with this specific function. Essential in the lines, but with “attitude”, a clean shape, but at the same time familiar and intriguing. A base, a hat, three LED bulbs, a stem and a handle, which easily allows its portability and three colors in a matte finish: white, black and brick. A simple lamp, as simple is the gesture of reading.

Comfortable reading calls for a light source that illuminates the book or other media well without dazzling. Kartell Geen-a floor lamp was specially developed for reading in bed or in a reading chair. Geen-a won this year Red Dot Design Award, one of the most prestigious awards in the design industry.

According to 2022 Red Dot Design Awards Jury, the unusual upper handle becomes an eye-catcher and, in combination with the large lampshade and the slender, cylindrical base, creates a highly independent individual appearance. In addition, the high level of user comfort is convincing.

Kartell Geen-a reading lamp is equipped with continuously dimmable LEDs. Its lighting angle can be flexibly adjusted to the position of the reader thanks to the infinitely variable height adjustment of the lampshade. The upper handle makes it easy to align and transport the lamp, while the heavy base provides stability and ensures that it cannot tip over.

The gently curved lampshade picks up on a classical design language, whose aesthetics are counteracted by the straight-lined stem. The visual interplay of the components lends the reading lamp sophistication and conciseness. The 132 cm high floor lamp made of powder-coated steel is available with a matt finish in white, black or brick brown.
