Intelligent horological tools are the new concern of the Swiss luxury watch manufacturers. IWC Schaffhausen‘s new device called IWC Connect gives wearers control over certain devices connected to the Internet of Things (IoT) and provide fully fledged activity tracking.

Engineered to be integrated into the straps of IWC sports watches, beginning with the Big Pilot’s Watches, the IWC Connect not only tracks the wearer’s activities, but also allows them to interact with connected devices in their environment (IoT).

The idea behind this new innovation is to enable owners of IWC timepieces to control their connected environment directly from the wrist while also maintaining the integrity of a handcrafted mechanical timepiece.

“Seeing that many of our customers and brand ambassadors are wearing connected devices alongside their IWC watches, we chose to work with a like-minded digital technology company to develop an elegant, aesthetically complementary solution that eliminates the need to have additional devices on the opposing wrist to your IWC,” explained Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen. “But, and this is essential, we do not touch our beautiful watches – an ‘IWC’ stays a mechanical handcrafted timepiece. We’ve engineered an intelligent design solution which perfectly integrates and underlines our product worlds.”

Further information and the launch date will be available in the coming months, announced the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer.

Dior Rose des Vents jewelry line

Dior launches Rose des Vents fine jewellery: The New Lucky Star Jewelry.

Dior La Rose des Vents

French luxury house DIOR celebrates its new Rose des Vents jewelry line with four short animated videos concieved by Dior’s Joaillerie creative director Victoire de Castellane.

French jewelry designer imagines encounters with the house’s founder, Christian Dior. The whimsical animation of these drawings resulted in four short cartoons where the famous Dior rose is an old maritime navigational tool and a new Lucky Star Jewelry. Rose des vents” translates to “wind rose,” an 8-point star meteorological graphic that can be found in mosaic form in the garden of Christian Dior’s former family home in Granville, France.

“I wanted to start from the idea of a little motif pendant. And what is more metaphorical than a medallion?” explained Joaillerie creative director Victoire de Castellane, who designed a mini-collection that you can wear whenever you like without unwanted attention.

“A symbol of travel, in it you find echoes of Christian Dior’s star and the idea of the good-luck charm, but also the rose, his favorite flower. The whole history of the house is there, implicitly.”

“Rose des Vents is also a metaphor for creation,” de Castellane added. “Creating is about searching, turning things over, and then finding one’s cardinal point and setting off on a journey. Creation is the product of a stationary voyage.”
