Flying Fox, the world’s largest charter superyacht, won the World Superyacht Award 2020

Flying Fox has set new standards in the yachting industry.

Lürssen Flying Fox wins World Superyacht Award “Best Displacement Motoryacht 500 GT and Above”

After moving the 2020 World Superyacht Awards ceremony from May to September at first, and then finally to November, the organizers were forced by the pandemic to create a digital event to honour the winners of this year’s Awards. Boat International put together an online ceremony which was attended by hundreds of guests of the luxury and yachting industry.

Since Flying Fox superyacht is quite a bit larger than all her fellow nominees in the same category, the judges decided to put her in a new category: “Best Displacement Motor Yachts 5000 GT and above”.

The judges considered Flying Fox to be an exceptional vessel not only in technical achievement but also for her owner and guest facilities, interior layout and extreme high quality of construction. “It was clear that Lürssen had striven for perfection.” said the judging panel.

“Building Flying Fox was a great challenge and we are very proud of this achievement. Flying Fox has set new standards in the yachting industry,” commented Shipyard Managing Partner Peter Lürssen.

The transversal 12m swim pool is a unique feature of Flying Fox vessel and it is the first time this has been realized on a yacht. It required extensive calculations and testing in order to be functional both while under way and at anchor. The pool allows the swimmer an infinity view on the sea over the whole aft end of the ship.

Another highlight on board Flying Fox is the spa area which has a grandeur and an expanse never been seen before on a yacht and offers the owner and guests a truly extraordinary and luxurious experience.

“My gratitude goes to the Owner for entrusting Lürssen to create this wonderful floating work of art as well as to the team of Imperial Yachts and the designers who all did a tremendous job. Without a good team spirit, such a complex project cannot be realized to the satisfaction of the client,” added Lürssen.

According to businessinsider, the world’s largest charter superyacht costs $4 million a week and comes with two helipads plus a cryotherapy sauna.

Escape’s forward-looking design includes a greenhouse, a moon pool, and a atrium stretching down through the decks

@feadship

Escape from this Superyacht in your private submarine.

Dutch yard Feadship has revealed a 110-metre superyacht design named Escape.

Feadship CEO Jan-Bart Verkuyl and senior designer Ruud Bakker unveil how a bright bunch of yacht brokers imagined the  freedom to Escape from it all. The Escape superyacht concept was presented in the fourth episode of Feadship Unveils, a YouTube series in which the yard revisits designs that were never built.

Escape yacht concept was designed during the yard’s three-day 2014 brokers course which saw attending brokers challenge the yard to design a yacht for “a very extrovert client”. The fictional prospective yacht owner was described as a “rockstar who is also aware of the environment” who wants a “yacht that can escape everything but also to escape from his own boat from a submarine”.

Feadship Escape’s forward-looking design includes a greenhouse, ocean lounge, a moon pool and solar panelling, among other exceptional features. Escape’s bow stores a personal drone beneath opening hatches. Once open, the owner can use the drone to explore air or sea.

Escape’s slow sleek profile includes a submersible craft for exploring the underwater world and a foredeck hangar from which the owner’s personal aerial vehicle emerges. The deck hatch rotates towards the sun to catch the rays on its large PV cells, part of a solar panelling plan covering some 700 square metres and generating 133 kW of energy.

Key features include 700 square metres of external solar cells, a greenhouse, ocean lounge and ‘moon pool’.

Designed with the life and style of an eco-conscious rock star in mind, Escape is a super-sleek 110-metre Feadship with a submarine and myCopter craft, an awesome atrium with moonpool and panoramic elevator, and a veritable solar system of green innovations. The ultimate escape yacht in every sense, in true James Bond style! There’s even room to grow your own vegetables,” said Feadship’s team of designers.

Feadship chief executive Jan-Bart Verkuyl described Escape yacht as a “forward-looking design”.

The epicentre of Escape is an amidships atrium that includes a wellness area and a moon pool with seawater which is actually inside the vessel and doubles as a secret submarine landing zone. There’s even a giant slide for inter-deck splashes and a panoramic elevator descending into the sea. The atrium is more than just a visual wow factor: it serves as a place for the owner and his friends to gather, replacing the function traditionally held by lounges.

“It’s quite a big boat but very low and sleek with lots of surfaces for solar panelling,” said Feadship Senior designer Ruud Bakker. The atrium which stretches down through the decks of the boat is a standout feature. Located in the middle of the boat, the atrium looks down into the moon pool, which allows sea water inside the boat.

“You can dive in there and swim out of the boat. You can close it off and have it as a safe swimming pool for the children or you can launch your submersible there,” explained the superyacht’s Senior designer.

Care for the environment is taken to the next level on Escape.

This includes green innovations, such as an enthalpy wheel to pre-cool the AC intake with exhaust air, reheating of AC air with waste heat from the generators and hybrid propulsion, as predicated on the Feadship Future Concept Breathe.

These innovations offer fuel consumption savings of up to 35%, excellent manoeuvrability at full speed, silent electric cruising and a wealth of redundancy options. The owner will also use his sub to research the status of the oceans in which Escape cruises.

Freddy Gump: Meet the yacht created for Freddie Mercury and Forrest Gump

@Feadship Project FG concept

Feadship’s new Freddy Gump combines rock star level partying with down to earth innovative design.

If you would combine rock star level partying with down to earth innovative yacht design, what kind of superyacht would you end up with? Meet Project FG (Freddie Gump). A yacht created for the fictional combination of Freddie Mercury and Forrest Gump. You would simply need a pop-up table tennis court, a panoramic piano lounge, and a hidden night club in the belly of the beast, right? Well, you got it!

Two weeks ago Netherlands-based Feadship shipyard, one of the world leaders in the field of pure custom superyachts, unveiled the second episode of Feadship Unveils – check it out here if you haven’t seen it yet. Last week Feadship revealed the renders and some more information of Project FG (Freddy Gump) superyacht.

@Feadship Project FG

“The 109-meter Project FG came to life during the Feadship Brokers Course in 2019,” said Feadship. “Together with the Feadship design team from Studio De Voogt, the invited brokers created a design for a wild – but down to earth – Freddy Gump. In a few days’ time, Project FG was born as a technically feasible design that allows for wild partying at night and peaceful relaxation during daytime.

In a video released on the Feadship’s youtube’s official channel, Feadship Sales Director Marsha van Buitenen and senior designer Jan Schaffers discussed Project FG, the brand new regal megayacht design with superstar appeal written all over it.

The109 metre superyacht’s unique features include a panoramic piano lounge, pop-up table tennis table with a transparent windbreaker,
an outdoor beach club accommodating 300 party people, and a mysterious nightclub for private gatherings.

@feadship.nl

“The guests have to find it – there are no directions about how to get there and the idea is that it is somewhere behind the engine – there’s a hidden door and you come into the club in the belly of the boat,” shared designer Jan Schaffers.

The ship sleeps 22 guests including the owner, who can retreat himself and create new songs on the piano lounge with a panoramic view.

“The client had on the one hand a party attitude but was also down to earth as well. On the down to earth side, it was Forrest Gump, on the more wild side, it was Freddie Mercury and with that, Freddie Gump was born,” explained Feadship sales director Marsha van Buitenen.

“On the tip of the bow we wanted to have a tennis table, but the ball is quite light, so if you hit it the wind will pick it up and it will be gone. So it’s a glass tube which comes up with a table in between with a door. You a sheltered from the wind and can play table tennis,” added Jan Schaffers.

How might an exceptionally fast Feadship look like? What kind of design features would be included?

Take a look at Feadship’s exploration into a sporty superyacht with a full-sized glass-bottomed pool, open wheelhouse and mega-sleek exterior. And let’s not forget a state-of-the-art propulsion system that deploys water jets rather than propellers.
