Muguet Millésime 2023: Guerlain Announces A Collaboration Like No Other

Guerlain’s Annual Springtime Rendez-Vous: Muguet Millésime 2023 Reborn

@Guerlain Muguet Millésime 2023

This year, in honor of the Bee Bottle’s 170th anniversary, Guerlain luxury Maison announces a collaboration like no other.

Guerlain Muguet Millésime 2023 is an exquisite Exceptional Piece imagined by not one but two extraordinary contemporary artisans: ceramicist Karen Swami and Haute Couture embroiderers Les Ateliers Vermont. A poetic lucky charm for Guerlain’s annual springtime rendez-vous, honoring French savoir-faire.

For over 110 years, it has been a ritual for Guerlain to celebrate the lucky-charm flower with delicate eau de toilette: Muguet. The tender, springtime scent of lily-of-the-valley was interpreted in turn by the House’s successive Perfumers: Jacques Guerlain in 1908, Jean-Paul Guerlain in 1998, then Thierry Wasser who composed the current version of Muguet in 2016.

An encounter between the art of the Guerlain Perfumer and the excellence of French savoir-faire.; @Guerlain Muguet Millésime 2023

In collaboration with ceramicist Karen Swami and Haute Couture embroiderers Les Ateliers Vermont, Guerlain Muguet Perfume is reborn for 2023 in a celebration of one of France’s oldest traditions: the giving of a spring of lily-of-the-valley as a lucky charm on May 1st.

For Muguet Millésime 2023, ceramicist Karen Swami imagined a strikingly realistic ceramic bell, transforming the Bee Bottle into a flower. Her oversized lily-of-the-valley is completed with a delicate tulle bow hand-embroidered by the artisans of Haute Couture: Les Ateliers Vermont.

“In tandem, we’ve succeeded in conjuring a sprig of lily-of-the-valley in a way that is both symbolic and rather realistic.” – Karen Swami

@Guerlain Muguet Millésime 2023

Recreating the lily-of-the-valley fragrance is a genuine olfactory feat as it is known as “mute”, it is impossible to capture its essence.

It is to the Perfumer’s virtuosity that we owe the reinvention of its wonderful but oh-so-fleeting perfume in all its facets. Composed by the Master-Perfumer Thierry Wasser, Guerlain’s Muguet takes on green and rosy facets that form a vernal setting for the lush floral materials. Jasmine sambac absolute, rose essence and absolute, are drawn from harvest especially selected by the perfumer for the delicacy and pureness of their extracts. At the heart of the bouquet arises the strikingly olfactory illusion of a freshly picked sprig.

To render the suppleness and colour of the leaf, Guerlain turned to les Ateliers Vermont, a Parisian Haute Couture embroidery house since 1956.

The virtuosos of this artistic craftsmanship created a bow in tender green tulle edged in green thread, standing for the leaves of the flower imagined by Karen Swami. Embroidered with delicate sprigs of lily-of-the-valley glinting like pearls of dew on each of the leaves and after several hours of meticulous work, this fabulously Haute Couture, strikingly poetic bow is tied to the neck of the Bee Bottle.

Karen Swami, ceramic artist, shapes elements to create pieces blending plays of shadow, modernity and perfect lines. It is this quest for purity that inspires the precious 2023 Millesime of Guerlain’s Muguet: that of a natural form as perfectly streamlined, an oversized lily-of-the-valley flower made of pure white biscuit in tributes to the luck-charm bell.

To produce the piece, Karen Swami collaborated with the porcelain workshops of Arquié, a Limoges manufacture that has been awarded the “Entreprises du patrimoine vivant” (“Living Heritage Companies”) label. Each of the 5,000 flowers is therefore the outcome of contemporary creativity and ancestral knowhows.

This limited and numbered edition of 5,000 pieces of 125 mL is presented with a 20 mL travel spray in its white leather sheath, as well as a funnel to pour the fragrance into the spray.

Luxury perfume house aims to raise up to one million euros to help protect bees

@guerlain

Bees are increasingly under threat today, and protecting these sentinels has been at the heart of Guerlain’s initiatives for over a decade.

Forever linked to the beauty of nature, bees have become more than a symbol, guiding Guerlain’s commitment to
sustainability.

Guerlain is marking World Bee Day and the International Day for Biological Diversity from May 20 to May 22,
inviting its communities and the beauty & perfume enthusiasts to engage with the luxury Maison’s commitments and initiatives. The Perfumes and Beauty House aims to raise up to one million euros to strengthen the Guerlain For Bees Conservation Program, which spans six partnerships to help protect bees.

Bees have been inspiring Guerlain ever since they first alighted on its iconic Bee bottle in 1853. Now the symbol of the Maison, they continue to inspire Guerlain creations, adorning its most precious bottles and informing artistic collaborations.

Guerlain is committed to preserving biodiversity, to sustainable innovation, to taking action for the climate, to
creating positive social impact, and to protecting one of nature’s most precious wonders, the bee. These
commitments are driven by a duty to act and to pass on the legacy of the Maison to future generations, a pledge
pursued with conviction and humility by all Guerlain teams.

For three days from May 20-22, Guerlain will take action by donating 20% of its worldwide sales, plus 20 euros for every repost of the World Bee Day Instagram image posted by Guerlain with the #GuerlainForBees and
#WorldBeeDay campaign hashtags.

Designated World Bee Day by the United Nations, this symbolic date coincides with the birth of Anton Janša, an
18th century pioneer in modern beekeeping techniques.

“A fund-raising drive of this magnitude is unprecedented for Guerlain. Our goal is to go even further in our commitment to bees, these wonders of nature that inspire our creations and guide our commitments. This is an essential priority for Guerlain, and protecting bees figures at the heart of our Purpose,” says Guerlain Director of Sustainability Cécile Lochard.’

@UNESCO and @Guerlain empower women and support biodiversity through Women for Bees programme under aegis of Angelina Jolie;

The Guerlain For Bees Conservation Program spans six partnerships and initiatives dedicated to bees:

  • Since 2011, Guerlain has provided support for sustainability actions by the Ouessant Island Black Bee
    Conservatory (ACANB) in Brittany, including both financial aid and assistance for research and communication.
  • Since 2015, a partnership with the French Observatory of Apidology (OFA), created by Thierry Dufresne, has led to the development of hive stocks across Europe, along with promotion of careers in beekeeping.
  • In 2018, Guerlain teamed with the OFA to create Bee School, a youth awareness program that educates children about the importance of protecting bees. Bee School is expanding internationally in 2021.
  • Since 2020 Guerlain has run the Women for Bees program in partnership with UNESCO and in collaboration with the OFA. This beekeeping entrepreneurship program for women trains new women beekeepers, creates new beekeeping operations around the world within UNESCO biosphere reserves, and measures the benefits of
    pollination.
  • Also in 2020, Guerlain became a patron of the GoodPlanet Foundation, created by Yann Arthus-Bertrand to raise awareness among young people by creating artistic and educational spaces dedicated to the world of bees.
  • Guerlain has since 2020 supported the ELYX Foundation, co-created by artist Yacine Aït Kaci as part of the FACE Foundation to promote the values and texts of the United Nations, in particular the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
