In a departure from tradition, the jury decided to award two Karl Lagerfeld Prizes this year, further highlighting the outstanding talent present among the finalists. The first recipient is Julie Pelipas, a 38-year-old Ukrainian designer and the founder of the womenswear brand Bettter. Pelipas garnered attention for her cutting-edge upcycled creations, showcasing her commitment to sustainable fashion practices. The second Karl Lagerfeld Prize was bestowed upon Luca Magliano, a 36-year-old Italian designer and the founder of the menswear and genderless brand Magliano. Both winners will receive a generous endowment of 200,000 euros and will benefit from a year-long mentorship program provided by the esteemed LVMH Group. The Karl Lagerfeld Prizes were presented by the talented Chinese singer and performer Xin Liu.

Delphine Arnault, the force behind the LVMH Prize, expressed her delight in celebrating the tenth edition of the prestigious award and congratulated all the finalists on their exceptional talent and creativity. She commended Setchu for its remarkable tailoring and elegance, Bettter for its cutting-edge upcycled creations, and Magliano for his casual and poetic designs. Additionally, the LVMH Prize acknowledged the accomplishments of three young fashion school graduates: Luc Albert, a graduate of Institut Français de la Mode (Paris); Justine Janot, another graduate of Institut Français de la Mode (Paris); and Nikki Park, a graduate of the College for Creative Studies (Detroit). Each of them will receive an endowment of 10,000 euros and have the opportunity to join the studios of prestigious LVMH Group houses for a year, including Dior Homme and Louis Vuitton.

The LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers not only celebrates exceptional talent but also emphasizes the importance of integrating environmental considerations into the fashion industry. In line with the LVMH Group’s commitment to sustainability, the winners will have access to a dedicated mentoring program and receive allowances on the Nona Source platform, amounting to 20,000 and 10,000 euros respectively. This platform aims to revalue deadstock materials from the Group’s esteemed Fashion and Leather Goods brands, further promoting sustainability and responsible practices.
