Jordan Brand x Anna Wintour create first-ever Jordan Women’s Collaboration

As sneakers transcended sport and initiated street-style trends, collaboration became an integral component of sneaker culture, blossoming into a symbiotic relationship between brands and external creative communities. That community has been predominantly male. However, in pushing new female voices, Nike is challenging the sneaker status quo.

In recent years, this has been propelled by curator-led retail partnerships. Creative endeavors with A.L.C.’s Andrea Lieberman and the International Girls Crew on the iconic Nike Cortez have also given new scope to sneaker collaborations; another highlight is the recent The 1 Reimagined project, Nike’s first collection of footwear designed entirely by a 14-strong female design collective.

These projects define the future state of footwear for women, where more curation and collaboration can be expected, but also an increase in female representation is poised to manifest new ideas not just for women but all sneaker enthusiasts.

Jordan Brand’s summer 2018 women’s lineup brings natural colors and materials to classic Air Jordan silhouettes – reimagining comfort, style and luxury with a distinct Jordan touch. The Air Jordan I High Zip balances luxury and simplicity, while the deconstructed Air Jordan III SE gives new dimension the classic ’88
design. The Particle Beige and Sail colorway swaps out traditional leather for ultra-soft nubuck, now coming with a version bearing Anna Wintour‘s signature.

When Anna Wintour gives her approval for editorial or creative, she simply writes “AWOK,” which stands for “Anna Wintour Okay.” The Vogue Editor-in-Chief teamed up with Jordan Brand to put this approval stamp on two iconic silhouettes for the ultimate co-sign.

The AJI Zip AWOK comes in University Red and Sail colorways. Its ultra-soft leather upper is accented by a bold metallic zipper and new embellishments, including a Swoosh. It comes with an “Edited by Vogue” Nike Air tag and the AWOK signature on the sole and tongue.

Inspired by Anna’s signature suits and sunglasses, the AJIII SE AWOK features tweed as the primary upper material, and a back heel with the AWOK moniker. The AJIII SE AWOK comes in black and red colorways.

Both shoes come in a premium box with two suede dust bags and an “Edited by Vogue” keychain.
