The new Juan López Selección Especial Habano commemorates the brand’s 150th anniversary and the 30th anniversary of La Casa del Habano franchise network.
Habanos, through its exclusive distributor for Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, has presented in world premiere the new Juan López Selección Especial (52 ring gauge x 170 mm length). The presentation took place on December 4th, online. Guests were able to gain and taste first-hand knowledge of the new Juan López Selección Especial Habano, and win exclusive prizes, including the first regional edition of the Juan López brand launched in Benelux, more than a decade ago.
This new product from Juan Lopes, a brand created in the 1870’s, is presented in a special case which contains 25 Habanos made “Totalmente a Mano con Tripa Larga”- Totally Handmade with Long Filler-, after a careful selection of leaves coming from the Vuelta Abajo* region, the land where is considered the world’s best tobacco is grown. Juan Lopez Selección Especial comes to surprise the most demanding aficionados with its exquisite aroma and excellent taste. 20 Regional Editions under this brand demonstrate its great acceptance in the different Habanos’ markets around the world.
A Habano cigar of character and great versatility.
Juan Lopez is one of Cuba’s smaller brands, and one that’s fairly obscure. There are few sizes left in the lineup, but they tend to be quite good, particularly the Selección No. 2, which was one of Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 cigars of 2020.
The aromas are evoking sweet, woody, green tea notes with floral accents. Entering the second third, notes of spices, cocoa and roasted coffee are revealed.
In the third third, more complexity, adding subtle notes of balanced bitterness, highlighting a great balance between aromas and flavors. The ash evolves very compact, with the characteristic gray of the Vuelta Abajo soil. This new vitola offers more than an hour of pure pleasure in a medium to full-bodied strength. This magnificent Habano pairs very well with Central Cuban Rums aged at least 15 years or with 18-year-old Scotch Whiskies.
The Juan Lopez Selección Especial, with a straight shape and medium-to- full strength format, will be exclusively commercialized at the network of specialized stores of La Casa del Habano. Juan López is a brand created in the 1870’s.

La Casa del Habano Benelux franchisees and their customers will be the first to taste the Juan López Selección Especial Habanos (factory name Fortunas).
Habanos commercializes 27 Premium brands produced Totalmente a Mano (Totally Handmade) and covered by the by the Protected Appellations of Origin (P.A.O.), including Cohiba, Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, Partagás, Hoyo de Monterrey and H. Upmann, among others.
