A brilliant testimony of the know-how of Baccarat crystal cutters, the Flamme bowl appeared in the Baccarat catalog in 1902. This radiant creation with curved and organic lines dazzles with the complexity of its decoration, revealing patterns of flames and star diamonds. Cut deep into the thickness of the crystal by a Meilleur Ouvrier de France, the decor takes shape to reveal the intensity of the red crystal. Double cased in Midnight blue crystal, this piece is entirely hand-cut by a Meilleur Ouvrier de France (Best Craftsman of France) of the manufacture. Revered flower among the Egyptians, the lily is synonymous with purity and majesty. Sumptuously engraved, the Lys vase created in 1904 bears witness to the influence of Art Nouveau in Baccarat’s creations. Entirely engraved by hand, the naturalistic floral motif is enhanced with touches of gold by the gilders of the manufacture. This sumptuous covered vase is characterized by the subtlety and refinement of its decoration painted in gold and polychrome enamels. Inspired by Iznik ceramics, this ceremonial piece from Baccarat is emblematic of the oriental-style achievements presented by the manufacture at the Universal Exhibition of 1878, then at the International Exhibition of Eastern France in Nancy in 1909. The beginning of new shapes and daring lines, the openwork decanters presented by Baccarat at the Universal Exhibitions of 1867 and 1878, represent a real challenge for the craftsmen of the manufacture. A first decanter, composed of a richly carved belly in the shape of a crown, was presented at the International Exhibition of Eastern France in Nancy in 1909.
