AN OCEAN ABOVE

The three-dimensional Weaving Water Headliner is a collaborative masterpiece — and ambitious reimagining of Rolls-Royce’s signature Starlight Headliner.

The elegant arrangement of glass organza petals encapsulates the hypnotic motion of water. It appears as though it is rising and falling against the translucent iridescence of silver metallic fabric. Fibre-optic ‘stars’ are hand-woven in parallel, creating a tranquil sense of illuminating movement.

‘Water can embody so many different stages — and it’s that transformation that inspires me to think of fashion from a wider perspective.’ – IRIS VAN HERPEN.

Iris van Herpen is a haute couture fashion designer whose work exists at the intersection of traditional craftsmanship and innovative technology. Renowned for her futuristic and otherworldly garments, van Herpen draws artistic vitality from two primary inspirations: the intricate systems of nature and the expressive power of movement.

Extending the width of the fascia, van Herpen’s Gallery artwork exhibits a delicate display of hand-crafted glass organza petals. The fluid design — inspired by chronophotographic techniques — depicts the undulating motion of water.

The Iris van Herpen team hand-stitched 162 glass organza petals onto the headliner, forming a fluid design that captures the hypnotic motion of water.

Rolls-Royce craftspeople then enlivened the skyscape with 995 hand-woven fibre-optic ‘stars’. 187 ‘stars’ illuminate in sequence, creating a tranquil sense of motion. In total, the piece was hand-crafted over 700 collective hours.

A distinctive pattern animates the silk-blend rear seats, evoking the reflection of light upon water at nightfall.

A RIPPLING CANVAS

Phantom Syntopia’s water motif is beautifully reprised on the bonnet. A solid silver Spirit of Ecstasy crowns the rippling artwork, leaving a trail of cascading waves in her wake.

IRIDESCENT MAGNETISM

The motor car is painted Liquid Noir — a Bespoke shade exclusively developed for Phantom Syntopia. Iridescent in sunlight, the shimmering colour reveals blue, gold, magenta, and purple undertones when observed from different angles.
