Perfectly imperfect jewellery for the Contemporary Urban Male

By Philippe Mihailovich and Caroline Taylor.

If you love the fashion and jewellery that can be found at the visionary Parisian under-the-radar fashion outlet, l’Eclaireur or in the equally under-the-radar fashion jewellery outlet, Mad Lords -opposite Paris’ not so secret concept-gadget store, Colette – then you are likely to have discovered the amazing Medieval-like rustic creations from Andy Henson and Brent Gold.

Sharing a universe that recalls the neo-goth Rick Owens looks and the Game of Thrones, this stunningly ‘imperfect’ and soulful, trendy mens’ jewellery range from Australia is rocking Paris.

With hand carved, raw and organic creations that feel as if they have been around since the beginning of the Iron Age, yet timelessly contemporary, the duo are creating pieces that feel as if they have always had a long story. Far from the classic haute joaillerie traditional classics found on the Place Vendome, the creations are not trying to create fine pieces to a perfection required by conservative customers, instead they are pleasing the bold fashionable set who do not fear tattoos or piercings and other primal identity markings.

Even when they are required to work with precious stones, they would prefer the stones to be imperfect and as far from industrialised, commercial jewellery as possible. Each piece will have its own personal scars as traces of the creators, symbolic of hammering out metals, chains and clasps with raw hammers and primitive files.

“Roughness and rugged imperfections shape our sincere aesthetics” they say.”We aim to imbed our process in each piece, as a silent reminder of the surveyed journey of our source materials. Hands are the true conductors of the atelier, materials pass through them and are diligently adjusted, set or moulded. Such composed individual creation, allows for a truly organic process, that shapes each product individually. Something that machines can never strive to replace. We seek to reflect the true meaning of creation; to craft a product that need not explain its existence. Singular, profound and expressive designs that speak without shouting.”

“Forged, wrought and shaped, each single piece is subjected to a highly intensive process”, they suggest. “
Every phase takes hours of patient and diligent attention.
From the experimental treatments and meticulous polishes to hand-crafted chain links, to soldered connections, kiln casts and oxidisation forms, we carefully guide each individual process. Heirloom stones, reworked silver, salvaged mammoth bone and antique horn, form the atelier’s primal foundation. These are substances belonging to previous generations.”

We hope you will enjoy the video interview with this talented duo filmed in Paris during the Fashion Week and Tranoï trade fair and that you will be as enthusiastic as we are about their work.

The Legends and Fairy Tales: Fendi dancing across the enchanted Trevi Fountain in Rome

From Rome with love. The first-ever fashion show at the iconic Trevi Fountain.
#‎Fendi90Years‬: A glimpse into an incredibly enchanted world.

Self-portrait shot by Photographer and Creative Director Margaret Zhang at the Trevi Fountain
Italian fashion house Fendi gave Fontana di Trevi in Rome a helping hand by supporting the renovation process. In return, the largest Baroque fountain in the city of Rome and one of the most famous fountains in the world, became an unusual setting for a prestidigitation fashion show celebrating Fendi’s nine decades in fashion.

The fountain which appeared in several notable films, including Federico Fellini’s La Dolce Vita, was the stage for a fantastical fairy tale world brought to life by Karl Lagerfeld with intricate embroidery, handmade appliqué, and a dreamy color palette.

Once upon a time, princesses danced across enchanted waters in lavishly adorned gowns. The Legends and Fairy Tales collection features romantic colors and ethereal materials such as organza, silk, and tulle.

In the interview preceding the show, you can see an aged Karl Lagerfeld explaining in a poetic manner the creative process and the idea of future at 82 years.

“Walking on water on the Fountain of Trevi is a fairy tale… something that will never happen again and never happened in the past. Since the Fellini movie with Madam Eckberg in the water nothing had happened in or under the Fountain,” explained Lagerfeld.

“I don’t have so much time left to have fun in the old way because I had enough of that in my life anyway. I have no idea about any kind of future. Future is the next season. Basta,” concluded Fendi’s Creative Director.

“Fendi’s craftsmanship shines with printed and hand painted fabrics, embroidered lace and rich velvet jacquards. A truly fantastical collection that could have only come to life in the Trevi Fountain,” commented Fendi.

The Trevi fountain was refurbished in 1998; the stonework was scrubbed and all cracks and other areas of deterioration were repaired by skilled artisans and the fountain was equipped with recirculating pumps.

In January 2013, Fendi announced a sponsorship of 2.2-million-eurofor the restoration of the fountain; it will be the most thorough restoration in the fountain’s history.

Restoration work began in June 2014 and was completed in November 2015. The restoration included the installation of more than 100 LED lights to improve the nighttime illumination of the fountain.

Velvet Pure-The Homage To The Art of Traditional Perfumery

reseda alba

The Reseda flower/ (mignonette), a floral ingredient missing from scent creation in recent decades, is revived in the new Dolce & Gabbana fresh floral fragrance inspired by this herbaceous plant native to the Mediterranean region. Reseda was used in flower arrangements, perfumes and potpourri.

With a name inspired by the scent’s pure, green floral quality, this new Dolce & Gabbana fragrance is defined by an unique green crystalline floralcy.

Mignonette flowers are extremely fragrant and are grown since ancient times for the sweet ambrosial scent of its flowers. A Victorian favourite, it was commonly grown in pots and in window-boxes to scent the city air. It was used also as a sedative and a treatment for bruises in Roman times.

The perfume is a blend of floral notes with crisp, floral accord of Galbanum, Jasmine and Cistus Labdanum, accompanied by a crisp fresh Fig Leaf Accord and airy Jasmin Alcoolat. The raw notes of Narcissus and Jonquille Absolutes are married with rich floral notes of North African Neroli and Geranium. Haitian Vetiver and Orris Butter are left for a grand finale.

Part of The Velvet collection of exclusive fragrances, the new 2016 Velvet Pure brings the wearer on an unprecedented olfactory journey to discover the origins and the history of Dolce&Gabbana. Just like a couture dress.

The Velvet Fragrance Collection draws its origins in the private memories of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. Each of the twelve Velvet and two Velvet Oud perfumes are the fruit of a dedicated research into the ancient essences of Italian tradition, reinterpreted using contemporary perfume-making techniques.
