THE ICON once again demonstrates how BMW keeps re-thinking mobility.

BMW says itis revolutionizing urban mobility once again with THE ICON, a watercraft designed to provide emission-free transportation on water. In partnership with boat manufacturer TYDE and the BMW Group subsidiary Designworks, THE ICON showcases a holistic approach to mobility, integrating sustainable premium transportation on both land and water.

With urban areas in need of more sustainable solutions, THE ICON represents a new concept in emission-free mobility, offering a locally emission-free drive system and a forward-thinking design that reimagines luxury as responsible pleasure. By utilizing existing technologies and expertise from the BMW i brand in electric mobility and boat manufacturer TYDE, THE ICON is a pioneering solution that integrates two modes of transportation for a seamless and sustainable experience.

BMW’s commitment to rethinking mobility is evident in its focus on expanding electric mobility and reducing environmental footprints throughout the value chain, as well as involvement in urban transport management. Collaborating with cities, universities, companies, organizations, and politics and society, BMW aims to reimagine urban mobility and safeguard quality of life in urban areas.

In Q1 of 2023, the BMW Group saw significant growth in global sales of fully-electric vehicles, with a total of 64,647 fully-electric BMW and MINI vehicles delivered to customers, representing an 83.2% increase from the previous year. The BMW brand alone more than doubled its sales of fully-electric vehicles, with 55,979 units delivered, a 112.3% increase from the previous year.

“Our strong product lineup continues to inspire our customers worldwide. Our fully-electric vehicles, in particular, are benefiting from high demand around the globe. We were therefore able to maintain the dynamic pace of our electromobility ramp-up in the first quarter,” said Pieter Nota, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for Customer, Brands, Sales. “The BMW Group is on track for slight sales growth in the full year 2023. The main growth drivers in 2023 will be fully-electric vehicles and models from the high-end premium segment – like the new BMW i7*, the new BMW 7 Series, the BMW XM* and the updated BMW X7,” Nota continued.
