What is so special about Italian linens? Without a doubt, it’s the three processes called the “finishing” – bleaching, burning and mercerization – which are done better in Italy than any other place in the world. Manufacturers may buy fine Egyptian cotton yarn, weave it anywhere in the world on the best German looms, but if they don’t “finish” in Italy, the fabric will be inferior. The same holds true for wool, silk, cashmere and leather finished in Italy.

 


 


What means luxury to you in one word?

Palinthonos Armoniae (harmony of opposites in tension, in the specific case: high harmonic dynamic status of our senses through
possession or acquisition of an element, physical or metaphysical, that acts as the medium to reach the position).

Add the element of value to the time/ space relation that rules our life and do not forget that, unfortunately, money does not define value at any level (is the cost of a bottle of wine the thing that define its value or the pleasure we get from drinking it?)

What are your models or fundamentals in life which you will recommend to others?

The type of pleasure and relaxation that my senses transmit to my brain at the moment of the event. The highest the level the biggest the luxury (a good night of sleep, in certain condition, is a tremendous luxury).

What is your criteria for luxury in order of preference?

Under a “brand” often lays the endorsement of ignorance. I know what I like and I do not need a “brand” to support me. In my case
the one sense I favor is the “taste”, so i like things that are related to it but I do not go by “brand” at all.

What is your favourite luxury brand(s) and why?

I respect “Hermes” because I know their loyalty to their principles (very rare in brands, always ready to compromise when sales
deep) but I never possessed or will posses any of their products. My favorite brand is “Krug”, I know what they put in their production and I appreciate the tremendous value they offer, They cost a third of “crystal” but they are worth 3 times as much.

Name 5 luxuries which are “indispensable” for you and why?

Good sleep (what i accomplish during the day depends on it), good company (life without good friends is empty), good food (the type of exhilarating moments you can live with good food in good Company are difficult to match in a life time). Good reading (a real luxury given the little time we can spend on it), good conversation (like good reading a very rewarding though rare event). Sorry, not jewelry, clothing or cars, they do not bring anything to me.

Digital and Luxury. Love or Hate? What means “digital” for you?

Just electronic versus mechanic logic. Easier and effortless, naturally when it works, because when it does not you would wish to have an old fashioned hammer.

How will be luxury in the future?

Hopefully easier to achieve and more affordable, but given the trend of our life style I suspect that a good night of sleep and good
friends and food will became an even bigger Luxury than they already are.
