One of the world’s most famous modern-day movie cars, the Bayside Blue 2000 Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R driven by the late Paul Walker in Fast & Furious 4, was successfully SOLD by Bonhams, for $1,357,000 – a new auction world record for a Nissan Skyline GT-R.

The Nissan Skyline GT-R, particularly the R32, R33, and R34 models, is a highly sought-after performance car among car enthusiasts and collectors, and it has set several car auction records over the years. Here are some notable examples:

In January 2021, a 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec sold for a record-breaking $310,000 at auction in Japan, making it the most expensive R34 GT-R ever sold.

In August 2020, a 1996 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec sold for $312,000 at auction in the US, setting a new record for the most expensive R33 GT-R ever sold.

In January 2019, a 1995 Nissan Skyline GT-R R33 LM sold for $1.4 million at auction in Japan, setting a new record for the most expensive Nissan Skyline ever sold. This particular model was one of only four built to commemorate Nissan’s victory in the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans.

In January 2018, a 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 V-Spec II Nür sold for $253,000 at auction in the US, setting a new record for the most expensive R34 GT-R ever sold at the time.

In August 2017, a 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 V-Spec II Nür sold for $310,000 at auction in Japan, setting a new record for the most expensive R34 GT-R ever sold at the time.

These are just a few examples of the auction records set by the Nissan Skyline GT-R over the years. It’s worth noting that the prices of these cars can fluctuate greatly depending on factors such as condition, mileage, and rarity, and there may be other examples that have set records that are not widely known or documented.

The principal hero car of Fast & Furious 4 movie, this Skyline car was the ‘one and only’ authentic R34 GT-R which appeared on screen, driven by the late Paul Walker.

Provided to Universal Film Studios in 2008, the GT-R was uniquely customised by Daryl Alison of Kaizo Industries to Paul Walker’s personal specification, which included the removal of all exterior vinyls to highlight the car’s clean lines, reflecting the actor’s wish not to drive a ‘Sticker Bomber’ and the installation of a large dashboard monitor. The specially installed OMP custom racing bucket seats remain in Paul Walker’s seating position.

In the run up to the sale, the car became a media star, garnering worldwide press coverage and international interest. The hammer finally fell in favour of a private collector who acquired the Skyline for $1,357,000 – a new auction world record price for a Nissan Skyline GT-R, more than doubling the previous record set in 2022 ($577,500).

“This is an incredible result, well-deserved for such an iconic car – not only one of the most famous contemporary automotive film stars from one of the world’s biggest movie franchises, but the ultimate example of the mighty ‘Godzilla’. This is a genuine piece of cinematic and modern motoring history.” Maarten Ten Holder, Managing Director, Bonhams Collector Cars.
