Horological premieres at Baselworld 2015: A window on the wonderland of watches and jewellery

The excitement is starting to build for Baselworld 2015.

Baselworld 2015 (19 to 26 March, 2015, Messe Basel, Switzerland) is poised once again to capture the hearts and minds of everyone interested in the global watch and jewellery industry. With around 1,500 prestigious brands representing every sector expected to participate, Baselworld 2015 will bring together all the key players from watchmakers to jewellers, from diamond, pearl and gemstone dealers through to machinery manufacturers and other suppliers.

Take a look at some of the watches to be presented in this microcosm of the watch and jewellery industry:

Blancpain Villeret Grande Date watch

With signature pure lines and timeless aesthetic, the new Blancpain Villeret Grande Date offers an elegant and useful large date complication for Baselworld 2015. Blancpain’s Calibre 6950 beating at the heart of this timepiece comprises two barrels and an ingenious large date mechanism equipped with a protective shock-absorbing system. This remarkable accurate and reliable automatic movement also features a variable-inertia balance with a silicon balance-spring and gold adjusting screws.

Breguet Tradition Automatique Seconde Rétrograde 7097 watch

The 2015 Tradition Automatique Seconde Rétrograde 7097 pays tribute to the “souscription” and “tact” watches made by Abraham-Louis Breguet in the late 18th century. Like them, its mechanism reveals the bridges, wheels, escapement, barrel and various other parts that are normally placed beneath the plate. The small offset dial at 12 o’clock – another characteristic of the great master’s legendary “à tact” watches – on the new Tradition 7097 model is overlapped by a retrograde seconds segment promoting optimal readability. The iconic “pare- chute” system of the Tradition collection positioned at 4 o’clock adds a perfectly symmetrical touch.

Harry Winston Midnight Feathers Automatic 42mm watch

Harry Winston’s new Midnight Feathers Automatic 42mm watch tells time with feathers. Harry Winston uses plumasserie, the rare and almost forgotten craft of creating art from feathers.

The new Midnight Feathers Automatic 42mm leads us on a journey into the realms of the animal and plant kingdoms, for the colours of the feathers suggest the amber-tinted roots of vetiver, bulrushes and cedar wood. Each watch is a unique experience as each hand-crafted dial naturally varies with the individual feathers and the master craftsman’s touch. With infinite patience, each remige, or flight feather, is selected, coaxed into shape then laid in its exact position on the dial, using a loupe for the greatest possible precision.

Armin Strom Skeleton Pure Earth timepiece

The entirely skeletonised Calibre ARM09-S reveals subtle depth effects and contrasts that are accentuated by the black PVD-treated plate. This highly sophisticated mechanical movement not only displays a resolutely contemporary design, but also delivers first-rate performances, including an eight-day power reserve driven by a twin barrel.

Perrelet Turbine Skeleton Réf. A3038/1A timepiece
Never before had it been possible to admire a skeleton movement in this way.The iconic Turbine by Perrelet gets a complete makeover to welcome its first skeleton movement in the new Turbine Skeleton Réf. A3038/1A timepiece.

The Turbine Skeleton reveals the internal structure of its entirely openworked Manufacture P-381 calibre. The black aluminium turbine is fitted directly on the under-dial, itself openworked, so as not to obstruct the view of the heart of the watch. Spinning at full speed, the Turbine Skeleton provides fascinating glimpses through its openings of the mechanism’s ethereal architecture.

Ulysse Nardin Répétition Minutes Hannibal Westminster Carillon Tourbillon Jaquemarts watch

With the new Répétition Minutes Hannibal Westminster Carillon Tourbillon Jaquemarts, Ulysse Nardin is retelling of Hannibal’s march over the Pyrenees and the Alps by elephant. Hannibal and the other characters have been transformed into jacks and are sculpted in white gold, as are the landscape and mountains in the background. The entire scene is set on a dial in genuine Alpine granite.

Longines Conquest Classic Moonphase watch

Elegance, one of the essential qualities of equestrian sport, is captured in the new Longines Conquest Classic Moonphase watch. Proposed in various executions, this model will appeal to men in search of a refined timepiece to wear amidst the excitement of the racecourse.

Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon 5-Day Power Reserve Indicator watch

Hublot fuses tradition and modernity in its first tourbillon in the new- generation Big Bang line. Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon 5-Day Power Reserve Indicator confirms the luxury watch manufacture as one of the very few watchmakers with the capacity to develop and produce its own movements. Remodelled with new bridge and mainplate architecture, this traditional tourbillon is joined by an additional complication, namely a power-reserve indicator.

Gucci Dive 2015 watches

Injecting a dose of Italian design into the world of sport, the 2015 Gucci Dive collection extends to eight new quartz versions. The collection speaks volumes about the wearer’s lifestyle, while its sporting allure is accentuated by a rotating bezel, a characteristic feature of a dive watch. Water-resistant to 200 metres, Gucci Dive watches come in three sizes with a diameter of 32, 40 or 45 mm.

Fendi My Way Limited Editions timepiece collection

With a removable little fur collar called “Glamy,” the colourful and joyful Fendi My Way watch comes in two new 50-piece limited series. The owner can choose to wear the watch in tune with the mood, fur-free for daytime or complete with the Glamy in the evening for an authentic style statement.

These four limited series are fitted with an Elaphe snakeskin strap in a colour to match the Glamy. The small-size version of the watch is studded with 421 diamonds (approx. 1.87 cts), while the larger variation sparkles with 667 diamonds (approx. 3.06 cts).
