The most expensive auction classics

A €22.7 million 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196, the vehicle driven by Juan Manuel Fangio, is the most expensive classic car ever sold at auction in 2013.

“What a difference a year makes. Only 12 months ago the list was a mix of marques from Bugattis to Rolls-Royce, but this year the list has seen more movement than the pop charts with four new entries and seven of the top 10 places being occupied by Ferraris,” says AFP about the top 10 list of the priciest cars ever sold at auction.

Seven Ferraris and a Ford earned their prices in this year’s list. A €20.35 million 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4*SN.A.R.T. Spider by Scaglietti is the second most expensive classic car to sell at auction. Fortunately, the proceeds went to charity. The list proves that historical Ferraris in limited-editions are the best long term investment.
