‘Cookbook of the year’ explores gourmet Chilean cuisine

“Patagonian Cuisine: Rivers, Lakes and Chiloe District” by Francisco Fantini has been named the cookbook of the year at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in Paris. The winning cookbook that takes readers on a gastronomic tour of Chile beat out 11 other titles around the world including The Art of Living According to Joe Beef, a Canadian cookbook from wildly popular and trendy Montreal gastropub Joe Beef, as well as American cookery institution, The Cooks Illustrated Cookbook.

A writer, a chef, and a photographer visited folk festivals and the kitchens of natives and Chileans who shared their stories, anecdotes and recipes in a cookbook that explores regional, local cuisines.

Patagonian Cuisine: Rivers, Lakes and Chiloe District is published by Gourmet Patagonia and retails for $70 (€53).This year, Latin America led the nominations with 35 finalists, followed by the US with 34 and France with 29 nods.

Winners of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards were named at a gala ceremony at the Folies Bergere in Paris
