El Festival del Habano: 5 years old Gran Reserva de Montecristo

5 years old Gran Reserva de Montecristo has been the Havana Festival star, the largest trade show dedicated to cigars.

The Cigar Expo held in Cuban capital Havana in the last week of February 2011 was attended by 65 guests from several countries.

El Festival del Habano was opened in an optimistic atmosphere, based on financial results of the last year, when there was a slight increase in exports of Havanas, despite a tough economic climate and the anti-smoking laws.

Cuba owns 72% of the world production of cigars. The launching of Gran Reserva de Montecristo Limited Editios is a special event. Only Cohiba (the favorite brand of Fidel Castro until 1986 when he quit smoking) has managed to launch a Gran Reserva.

To achieve puros like Montecristo Grande Réserve the best Vuelta Abajo leafs (the Meca pf the Cuban tobacco) were aged during 5 years and then hand rolled with maximum finesse. Production of the first cigars Montecristo Grande Réserve was limited to 5,000 boxes, each with 15 units each. The price was not disclosed yet.
